Hiroshima has great local cuisine, and there are numerous wonderful options available to you at any time of year. During the holidays, however, you may need some hints on where to go to get your fill of holiday tastes and treats. There is no cause for alarm, however, as we have you covered with a few options to weigh up.
Each year the Sheraton Grand in Higashi Ward puts on a lovely Christmas buffet spread in its Bridges Restaurant. There are loads to choose from, so you should be spoiled for choice.
Unfortunately, at the time of our going to press, their menu is yet to be decided, however last year, from December 21 to 25, the buffet included roast turkey, smoked salmon, snow crab, smoked turkey, and numerous other luxury items.
Check with the hotel closer to the time to confirm this year’s menu.
Putting on a seriously luxurious option this Christmas is the ANA Crown Plaza Hotel. From December 23 to 25, the hotel will be reopening its exclusive European Continental Le Platine restaurant (it has been closed in recent months to help halt the spread of coronavirus) on the 22nd floor, boasting spectacular views of the city while you dine.
However, there is a possibility that your eyes may be too busy with the dishes in front of you to take in the view. Composed using ingredients carefully selected by World Cuisine Olympics gold medalist chef Kazunori Omori, you can feast on caviar, opulent roasted wagyu beef fillet, foie gras sauté served with Omar shrimp, and conclude with a sumptuous chocolate mousse.
If you want to go for something a little less extravagant, the hotel also has more accessible – and cheaper – courses in their other restaurants, with a variety of buffets and lunch courses also available.
Hiroshima’s favorite expat bar, Molly Malone’s usually goes fully traditional when it comes to Christmas dinner. We reached out to them to find out what they are doing this year, but unfortunately, they haven’t yet gotten back to us – probably too busy putting up the Christmas decorations.
Last year, however, they had a full dinner set, and for 3,000 JPY, on December 24 and 25 you could get a potato and leek soup, roast ham and turkey plate, and a chocolate fondant for dessert.
