For most of us from colder climates, it is hard to imagine winter without ice skating. Luckily, many in the metropolis share that view, and there is a wide selection of ice rinks to choose from. We’ve looked high and low for the best places to hit the ice this winter.
Tokyo Midtown Ice Rink
First up is Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi. This large rink is operating until March 26th, so there is plenty of time to go. If you go now, however, you will have some fantastic illuminations to accompany your evening post-work skate. My favorite thing about this rink, aside from the location, is that the ticket price includes a coupon for the cafes and restaurants inside Tokyo Midtown so that you can enjoy a coffee after your ice time. The costs for admission are 2,100 yen for adults and 1,600 yen for children on weekdays. On Weekends, the price increases to 2,500 yen for adults and 2,000 yen for children.

Brilliant Winter Rink at Aqua City Odaiba
Yet another reason to visit Odaiba at this time of year aside from the illuminations is the skating rink. This indoor rink is open until March 5th. The ice is made from resin which, combined with the indoor location, means that it is a bit warmer than some of the outside rinks I’ve mentioned. Admission is a reasonable 1,800 yen for adults and 1,500 yen for children, including the skate rental and safety gear.

Futako-Tamagawa Rise Skate Garden
This option has a wide array of lessons available if you are serious about getting your double axles mastered. The rink is open until March 5th and can get crowded in the evenings since some illuminations are held here. Admission is 2,000 yen for adults and 1,800 yen for students.

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Art Rink
You may have noticed this one while visiting the Christmas Market, but if not, there is no need to worry since this rink will be operating until February 19th. For our Yokohama readers, this rink has a beautiful, convenient location and great ambiance. The admission is 700 yen for adults and 500 for children, which is extremely reasonable. The downside is that skate rental is not included, so you’ll have to pay 500 yen more to actually skate. Still, the total price is cheaper than any other option, so you cannot complain about the odd pricing structure.

Ginza Six Rooftop Star Skating Rink
This is a new option. The Ginza Six shopping mall roof has been converted into a small ice rink. The nice thing about this rink is easily the rooftop views of Ginza and the Tokyo skyline. The rink is made of resin and offers seats to take breaks. The admission is 2,000 yen for adults and 1,500 for children. Note that gloves are required but can be purchased for an additional 500 yen.
Location: Ginza Six, 6-10 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
