If you plan to stay in Kobe and still searching for the perfect accommodation, look no further. There’s no better option than Peanuts Hotel, especially for Snoopy fans. The hotel is based on the comics by Charles M. Schultz, which are popular with people of all ages in Japan. This small hotel has just 18 rooms, suitable for between one and three people.
In the Peanuts comic strip, Snoopy is sitting on the roof of his doghouse when three birds land next to him and fall asleep. This leads Snoopy to say, “It’s nice to have a home where your guests feel comfortable.” Peanuts Hotel aims to be that comfortable home for visitors to Kobe.
Three of the six floors in the hotel have rooms for guests, and each of these floors has a specific theme: Imagine, Happy, and Love. The rooms relate to the floor’s theme, but they also have their own unique design based on a different comic strips. For instance, one of the rooms on the Imagine floor is based on a comic where Snoopy becomes the first beagle on the moon. It has an outer space design and features astronaut Snoopy throughout.
One room on the Happy floor even combines Japanese culture with Peanuts. It’s based on a comic strip that ends with Snoopy saying, “When you go someplace nice, you should always shine your feet!” The Japanese connection comes from the fact that you always need to take off your shoes when you enter a room. The decor includes tatami flooring, paper sliding doors, and traditional-style art featuring Snoopy.
Finally, on the Love floor, there’s Special Room 61, which is based on the same comic strip as the hotel as a whole was. There’s a stuffed Snoopy on an armchair, and models of all the characters from the comic sit at the head of the two twin beds. This room is the only one with a terrace and bathtub.
You can eat breakfast (included in the room price), lunch, and dinner in the Peanuts Diner. The restaurant is also open to non-guests after 11:00 a.m. Some dishes, desserts, and drinks are named for Peanuts characters, such as Kite Eating Tree’s Genovese, Frieda’s pink peach melba sundae, and Lucy’s lemonade. Most of the dishes are traditional to Kobe — although you wouldn’t expect such a menu since the decor resembles a seaside diner from the Western U.S.
There is also a café for drinks (takeout only) on the first floor.
To remind yourself of your stay in the Peanuts Hotel, you can pick up some souvenirs in the store behind the reception. Merchandise includes toiletries with a unique scent, towels, and the same tableware found in the diner.
Peanuts Hotel is not taking reservations through their website right now, but the rooms are available. To make a reservation, you need to call the hotel.
