Valentine’s Day always sneaks up on me. Between recovering from Christmas and New Year’s and dealing with some seriously cold Tokyo weather, it’s easy to forget that Valentine’s Day is mere weeks away. So assuming you’ve picked up your best chocolate from the nearest Department Store, the next step is figuring out where to take your date for a night out. Luckily, I’ll let you readers in on a little secret: my articles on ice skating, Japanese gardens, winter illuminations, coffee shops, and Ferris wheels are all great places to find inspiration for your date. I’ve been thinking ahead this entire time and already provided dozens of great options for you! But maybe you still want something a little more grandiose and romantic than strolling through the illuminations together while sipping coffee, holding hands while ice skating, or sitting together in a gondola with nothing but a view and each other’s company? We’ve got you covered for that, too. Here are some of the most romantic spots in Tokyo that will make your Valentine’s Day one to remember.
That’s right, Disneyland! The happiest place on Earth is quite possibly the most romantic place in Japan. Every Valentine’s Day and most days, to be completely honest, Tokyo Disney Resort is the destination for love-struck couples from all over Japan as they bask in the glow of the Disney magic. Go to Disneyland for the magic and thrills from the many attractions on site, but visit Disney Sea for a more laid-back time and the sales of alcoholic beverages. If you really want to make your date memorable, then wear matching outfits, which you will notice is a very popular thing to do. Be advised that this will be a crowded option but one that you will likely never forget. Finally, Be sure to go on a night when they have a fireworks show.

Cruising around Tokyo Bay is another option that we never really talk about. There are several options available and multiple ways to do it, but taking a boat ride is a great way to see the city’s beauty. If you go at night, it is dazzling and makes for perhaps the perfect date. The best option if you want something really special is the Symphony Tokyo Bay Cruise. This cruise on a lovely ship called the Symphony departs from the Hinode Pier, passes under the Tokyo Gate Bridge, and goes around Tokyo Bay as you enjoy a luxurious dinner onboard. Unforgettable will be an understatement.

But maybe you are on a budget and want something that isn’t a trip to a theme park or an expensive nighttime cruise. In this case, Meiji Jingu Gaien may work in a pinch. It’s a beautiful park in the center of the city with an entrance lined with enchanting ginko trees. You and your date can wander the grounds and enjoy the scenery. It is also ideal for couples with children who can run around as you steal a few brief romantic moments together.

This is an absolute Tokyo Date Night classic. People have been going on dates to Tokyo Tower pretty much since it was constructed in 1958. This option has some extra perks compared to many on our list. For one, the view is outstanding, especially if you go at sunset. Next, it has a very central location in town close to the many world-class restaurants of Azabu-Juban and Roppongi if you’re planning on having a romantic dinner at one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants in the area. It’s also extremely budget-friendly while also being completely iconic. There are really no downsides to a date at Tokyo Tower, which makes it my top recommendation.

I know I already recommended the other Tokyo Tower, but hear me out on this one. Tokyo Sky Tree also makes for a fantastic date. In addition to the astounding view from the top, there is a fantastic planetarium nearby, the Konica Minolta Planetarium, “Tenku,” which is an amazing experience located in the Tokyo Skytree Town. Plan ahead and spring for the premium seats so you and your date can relax in style and watch the stars. Think of this idea as two really fun activities that can go towards creating one fantastic and romantic date night.
