Primary Care Tokyo – General Practice Clinic

male_doctor_japanDr Joe Kurosu is a bicultural American-Japanese doctor who made a great name and reputation for himself while while practicing medicine in Nagoya.  While the local Nagoya community was very sad to see him go, he is well established and practicing comfortably in western Tokyo now, at his clinic in Shimokitazawa (Odakyu and Inokashira train lines).

Dr Kurosu (or Doctor Joe as my friends used to call him when he was in Nagoya) wrote an article in the Asahi Newspaper in 2010 entitled;

“Insurance caps on drug dosages harm patients”.

The article will be interesting read for anyone who receives treatment from the Japanese healthcare system, and more interesting yet in how little has changed since the article was written!

Primary Care Tokyo (Clinic) (English Website)

Dr Joe Kurosu’s clinic in Tokyo can provide:

  • General care for acute conditions such as colds, stomach/intestinal problems.
  • Continuing care for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, asthma
  • Annual physical examinations, school physicals
  • Blood tests
  • X-rays
  • Urine tests
  • Electrocardiograms
  • STD testing and treatment
  • Pap smears
  • Minor surgical procedures such as drainage of abscesses, suturing of lacerations, removal of small lesions, cryosurgery
  • Immunizations
  • Birth control (oral contraceptives, “morning after pill”)
  • House calls

I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t do house calls to Nagoya, but it’s good to see that he’s still in Japan, and that folks in Tokyo can still choose to see an American-trained doctor who has experience in the Japanese system.
